The delicate ‘ilima are about 1 inch in diameter. The colors of the tiny flower range from light yellow to deep yellow, orange, greenish, dull red or even copper colored.
The story is the ‘ilima were favored by Hawaiian royalty– and no wonder. They are beautiful, distinctive and the lei takes more than a little effort to make. Stringing a single ‘ilima lei may take 700 or more than 1,000 of the tissue paper-thin flowers.
The “Ilima is the official flower of the island of Oahu.
