These aren’t at all like the anthuriums we grew up with.
Those were always small or medium-sized, and red. I still like them, especially the deep red ones.
But I love the new varieties, especially the giant “Obake.”
“Obake” (Oh-BAA-Kay)is a Japanese word meaning something that changes, or shape shifter. When we were kids our parents used to scare us with stories of monsters, or ghosts– “obake.”
These obake anthuriums are huge, but not scary at all. Just impressive, interesting and beautiful.
