“Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind.”– Bruce Lee
A lesson I’m still learning.
How many of us equate strength with brute force? Or size? Or with how many weapons we have at our disposal?
I think true strength is quiet. It doesn’t shout, it just is.
Strength is knowing who you are and not allowing others to dictate your identity.
Strength is courage without bravado.
Strength is spirit, not religion.
Strength is knowing when to bend, and when to stand up straight and tall.
Strength is moral. Strength is ethical.
Some people are born strong.
But others have to work at it every day.
I’m not a Mandela, or a Gandhi, or a Mother Teresa.
I’m just me, trying every day to be strong
Like the bamboo.
